copying large groups of files

i have a two quick questions. 1. would dragging and dropping folders that contain large amounts of files (25,000) possibly corrupt a small amount of the files? 2. is there a better way to copy folder from my internal hard drive to an external firwire drive?
 
1. don't think so, been backing up my hd (over 150'000 files) withCCC didn't encounter a corrupt file.

2, other than ccc there's silverkeeper that's pretty easy to use and free
