Core Audio problems

I have a mac G5 running OS 10.3 and a Motu 828mkII firewire audio interface. Everything has worked fine until recently when something inexplicably stopped working. The MOTU firewire still pops up when the 828 is turned on so the firewire connection must be fine but i get no sound unless i revert to the built in audio. Also when i try to play a song in iTunes, the counter stays at 0:00 and nothing happens. When I Load up Logic Pro 6, I get a message saying: "Core Audio has returned error code 726". I have tried everything I can think of to no avail, even tried buying a new firewire cable and nothing has made any difference so far. Please can someone help and not refer my question to MOTU because I've tried everything they suggested already. Thanx

hi i had similar problems, i run a motu 896hd, mac g5 2.3 ghz - i was on the phone to motu so amny times, & it was not the motu,,,, what i found it was the
mac firewire bus.. i changed ports it stopped the problems for a bit , now it is acting up again on the other port.
i got a firewire card ( lacie ) & it seems to be ok, but it takes pci slot, which really
sucks..
but i herd via my own searchs on the net,we are not the only ones, it seems these mac's have this
problem, & apple knows about it, the newer macs have the problem fixed. i herd one person had to get the boards replaced, 800 bucks, - :(
i hope this helps, i am no tek, i just make music,
i just got the new mac pro, i hope it is as good as the hype it has on it
