Cross platform network

Hi, everybody

I'm trying to access a PC through my G4 (running OS X) and I couldn't. Well, I could, but not the way I learned from Apple's website. When I typed the NAME of the computer, nothing happened; I could only get the connection when I put the IP address. The only thing is, this computer doesn't have a fixed IP, so that is not the best solution. Can anyone help me? Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to do something else?

Thanks,
Joana

Depending on what OS your running on the PC, I find that installing NetBEUI on the PC.

Also you need to make sure you have a folder shared on the drive.

So if the machine is named 'win2k' and the folder your are sharing is named 'share' the information you put in the mac is this:

press command-k to bring up connect to:

type in: smb://win2k/share

I suggested the NetBEUI because I also have other PCs on my network and that as long as my PCs can see the share drive, my mac had no problems accessing the share.

NetBEUI is a broadcast protocol that makes connecting a small network simple, this would not be a good solution for large corporate networks.

hope this helps:p
