I downloaded the new MouseWorks 2.4b2 driver and when I boot up the G5, it cursor is frozen at start up. The only way to get it to work is if I unplug it, and re-plug it.

Did you uninstall the old MouseWorks driver first? Was the old driver working? If yes, then uninstall the new one and replace with the old one. It's a beta, which may mean that it's not completely great yet Or, it should just work without installing drivers, and use the mouse with default OS X drivers.
Or, if your cursor is working OK after reseating the device, then you could just work that way until the good driver comes out
I did uninstall the non working 2.4b1. I had trouble with that one. 2.4b2 is a new install. I can open up the Prefernces with version 2, something I couldn't do with 1, but the mouse did lock at start up with both versions.
