I can't log on to my macbook pro...

it starts up then goes to a black log on screen which reads:

"darwin/ BSD name - name - computer.locale (console)"

then goes to a blank blue screen.

how do i fix this?
 
Archive and Install.

Put the Mac OS cd in and boot off of that and choose archive and install so you don't loose your programs, etc.
 
I have the same problem, only now, after trying to reboot with the DVD, it is stuck and wont load. I get this:

Make sure you hold down the "D" key when you hear the startup chime in order to boot from the installation disc. The "D" key is to boot from the optical drive on the Intel Macs while the "C" key is to boot from the optical drive on the PowerPC Macs.
 
Depressing the D key still goes straight to "You need to restart your computer"

The same if I try and let it load by itself.
 
It appears that there is something going wrong during the boot phase
or startup that is kicking you into single user mode - try tying exit at
the prompt if there is time before the blue screen shows up.

Archive and Install should be your choice of LAST resort, and not the
first choice by any means.

Boot to the install disk and repair permissions first and see if that fixes
the problem

so far no luck even getting into user mode. I am off to see a mac-tech friend and see if he has any luck. I will post when I return.

finally got it sorted out. it seems I had a bad RAM card that corrupted my hard drive. I replaced the ram with old ram (I had upgraded to max), replaced the hard drive with my backup, and then rebooted successfully.

Now I send the ram back to OWC and let them troubleshoot the cards and get replacements.

Whew, now it is a matter of putting everything back where it belongs.

finally got it sorted. there was a bad ram card that had corrupted the hard drive. put in my old 256 ram cards and a 160 gig hard drive I had in an enclosure (reformatted) and all is working now.

I will send the ram back to OWC and see what they can do for me and start putting things back together.
