I don't think it ever would. What would you personally use the streaming server for? Distributing DVDs across a network? It would have to be quite a fast network for MPEG-2 video/audio streams...
I would like to stream some videos, but these videos must be redirect to an analog device (tv for example) via set top box.
I have an Aminet100 as STB, but it only supports mpeg1 & mpeg2.
do you know some other low cost set top box which can understand mpeg4 streamed by darwin?
Okay, I see
If the building is wired with coax or BNC cable, I'd recommend just using a TV band transmitter and hook it up to the local cable network. Then just connect the analog video output of the broadcasting computer to the transmitter. You'll even get better quality, and it's about $10000 cheaper than an MPEG-1 broadcasting system.

What rate do broadcast-quality MPEG2 streams run at? A Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet network wouldn't handle quite a few streams (I'm guessing 10mbit/s, so perhaps 8-80 streams)?
Personally, I stream 6mbit/s MPEG2 at home across my 100mbit/s wired network and 54mbit/s wireless with very good quality. (I'd be surprised if my digital cable company or satellite TV company stream at even that rate - the artifacting is TERRIBLE, and I know I'm not the only one that can see it. The concept of "broadcast quality" has been going downhill lately...)
