data retrieval from corrupt ipod

My 160GB Video Ipod is saying that it is corrupt and osx doesn't seem to be ablt to read it. It is still functioning fine as an ipod though and has been for a few weeks since it happened.

I have a lot of data files stored on it that I don't have backed up, is it possible to retrieve these in anyway? Or do I have to restore it and lose everything?

Have you tried to 'reset' your iPod? It often fixes a lot of problems. You will not lose your data. Check this link for info…

Do NOT use the 'restore' function unless all else fails, since this will restore it to factory status and therefore will erase the data.

Thanks, I have tried that. It didn't work, and I don't seem to be getting anywhere trying to find another way to do it...think i may have to bite the bullet and restore....

I'd say a restore is the way to troubleshoot this. Sadly, you probably will lose the data. Can you put the iPod into disk mode?

1.) Turn on "hold" and turn it off again. (I guess this really just makes sure it's not on hold, but do it anyway.)

2.) Press and hold the "Menu" and "Select" buttons until the Apple logo appears.

3.) Immediately switch to holding the "Select" and "Play" buttons until you're in disk mode.

That'd be my last try before restoring...
