Date Settings in Classic

My fist imac (233mhz rev B model) running OS 9.2 has now decided to keep changing the date settings on startup. For some reason the date reverts back to 27/08/56!!!

Anybody got any ideas as to what may have gone wrong everything else seems to work fine.
 
Could be a dead pram battery. If you are feeling brave, and/or have experience with taking apart computers, you can take it apart and replace. Don't know if there is a way you can find if its dead or not without taking it apart.
 
Loosing the date is the first sign that the battery needs to be replaced.
You need a 3.6V Lithium battery that you can get at Radio Shack or any computer store.
You will need to unplug the computer, place the screen on a towel that is on a table, and unscrew the back end to get to the motherboard where the battery sits.
