default application problem? Adobe

Hi, I've just recently had to do a clean install of 10.2. I installed Photoshop 7 but for some reason all the files now have their icon as the Preview app instead of the imageready or photoshop icon, also they all open in Preview when you double click which is really annoying.

Also, Illustrator 10 files now have a blank icon instad of the illustrator one?

Why is this?

You will be pleased to hear there is a simple fix for you.

Select a file you would expect (or desire) to be opened by photoshop, and select 'get info'. In the 'open with' arrow tab, select Photoshop as the application. It will likely ask you if you wish to open ALL files like this particular file, with photoshop, or just that single file.

This can be very handy if you want to be saving files out of photoshop, but you want to have them open by default in a different app (eg: saving web images - GIF & JPG – from photoshop, and having them view with preview).

Photoshop SHOULD be the default handler for PSD files after you did the installation (as Aministrator, I hope :) ). If not, simply repeat the above steps with a PSD file to make them open as you would expect.

Thanks that kind of worked - unfortunately the icons are still as the Preview App and so I don't get the thumbnail preview anymore. Hold on just noticed that it probably because I compressed the files, uncompessed and now that's why. Thats really annoying isn't it?
