Default PASV ftp support

scott

softer than ever!
Hi,

Is it REALLY the intention of apple to not allow passive ftp connections on OSX Server 10.1?

I cannot get it to work, but every FTP client out there defaults to passive.

Apple's manual and site say "have client turn off passive" but WHY?

I've tried adding to /sbin/ipfw no luck.

I am behind a router, but server is set as DMZ so all port requests should go to server.

Any help?

Hmmm. Have you tried tcpdump? The output is a little cryptic, but it might give you a somewhat better handle on what is going on - at least you'd know if things weren't getting through.

Can you use passive ftp from your own computer - is it just PASV from outside that breaks things? What about other computers behind the same router?

by 'adding to /sbin/ipfw' I assume you mean, changing the rules so that passive ftp should work?

How are you coming along with this scott?
scruffy has good suggestions, have you progress?

You mentioned you have the X server on/in a DMZ. This a public web/ftp machine or will it be used for file/print services for office personnel? Something to consider is you might not particularly want the X server on a DMZ if you intend 'office' services.
Is that a router to a DSLAM or a T1? Or one of those appliance thing-a-ma-bobs?
