Default Voice in Speech Preferences

A Mac New Guy
I was wondering if any know how to turn the default voice that apps use, if they can. Now it is getting really annoying. I don't know if any of you get this, but get a note that says It has been 7 days since your last ABS backup. Would you like to upgrade(or something) now? It used to be just a note but now a deep voice is saying it, and it is freakin' annoying. I would appreciate any help.

Thanx

Er, just untick all the tick boxes so it won't speak anything.

I'm using Panther and this is under the 'Spoken User Interface' tab of the 'Speech' section of the system preferences application. It might be slightly different on an older version - can't remember.

This is what you mean, yes?

Ya, but they were already unticked(i amrunning panther), and the deep(pipe organ voice, I think) voice came on again when the battery power was low, and it came on this morning. Thanks for the help anywway, though.
