Hi, I'm new here and do not understand Mac OS X at all
I have MacBook Pro with Mac os x 10.4.8
I was trying to connect my Yamaha OIV96 digital mixer to my laptop to operate my audio software ProTools.
I installed USB driver succesfully, but during the instalation of USB settings file I changed the extention by chance. :(
I ordered this file to be opened with script editor and now when I try to install this aplication sistem says that I cannot open this kind of file with the script editor.
This file is 01V96-USB and no extention is written on it. I don't know how to open and isntall it.

Could you please help me to get back the extention which had this file before.

Thank you.

Well . . . you may get a "stern writing too" since this is the wrong section. Hopefully, on of the Powers That Be [PBUT--Ed.] will move it. This is for guides on "How to Do Things" rather than get questions asked.

On the assumption it will move some suggestions/questions:

  • 1. You probably should update to the latest OS 10.4--10.4.11 at some point using the combo update.
    2. Are you saying you cannot re-install the driver to this mixer--is that what you mean by "extension?"
    3. Are you saying your Mac does not recognize the mixer at all?
    4. Have you gone to the Yamaha page to look for drivers?
    5. Consider getting Pogue's Missing Manual for OS X (Tiger)--cheap now since the Leopard version is out, and it covers a lot stuff usable for Leopard. Also the book on switching from PC to Mac is good.

I am really sorry that by mistake I opened my thread in wrong directory. I hope forum moderators wont be angry and will move this thread to a correct directory.

regarding to my problem:
I am sure no update will solve my problem.
I do not reinstall. I try to install the application which will set the settings for my Yamaha mixer.
I do everything correctly, what is written in manual.
Unfortunately, by mistake, I "ordered" this application to open with script editor (open with (always use this program to open with...)). And now I do not know how to remove this "extention", which makes this file to open with this program.
Sorry may be I speak with PC language (my English is poor too)...

Well here are some screenshots:

This is how this file looks on an installation CD:

After when I copy it to my laptop it changes the icon:

[I have to copy this file to hard in order to install it, as said in manual]

and here is the file info:

Oh snap! There may be a simple solution for you. Do you know what application you need to open it with to work?

While you sort that out, I will create a pickie on how to do it.

Oh, God, if I just new that :D
I have no idea which application can open it.

Thanks for an attention :)

Here is the Get Info panel for a film. Normally it opens with QuickTime:

I do not like the default choice or the choices:

Get-Info-Choose.jpg

so I click on the bar which gives a big panel which then allows me to choose "All Applications"--from that you can choose whatever application you wish and then make it the default:

I have no idea what application works, but if should be listed in the manual regarding what program to use for Mac--or that program/driver should be in the installation disk for the mixer. You may have to check with Yamaha . . . or trial and error.
