Deleted account in Mail.app; now lost the mails

Zammy-Sam

I recently cancled my .mac account. Since mail.app was bothering me with the accession problem and asking for the password all over again, I just went to Preferences in Mail and deleted my mac account.
Well, now I discovered it deleted my whole mails from that account as well. :(
What to do? How can I get my mails back, but delete that account (if I can undo anything at all)

muahhh

Check here;

user>library>mail

I don't know if it'll be there after the deletion, but take a look.

Unfortunately there is nothing left from my mac-account there. But there is a very strange thing. I have another panther partition (pan2) and it's still a kinda fresh install. I didn't import my mails onto that partition (pan2) yet. When I clicked import and set the folder user/library/mail located on pan1 I found a folder called: Mac-Sam... (sounds like my Mac-Account folder)
I can't see this folder on my current panther partition (pan1) even though I turned on showing_hidden_files using TinkerTools.
Am I freaking out?
Anyway, wasn't able to import any mails from pan1 to pan2 mail?!? Guess it was about permissions.

So, looks like I lost the mails, huh? :(

Try to drag that mac-sam mailbox or folder to your mail.app on the dock and see if it opens it. (or open it with vi in terminal if you don't like the gui).

Try dragging the entire Mail folder from the Library in the 2ndsystem to the Library in the 1st system and then open mail.

Mail deletes them. If you need the mails of an account but don't want to have the account anymore, copy the ~/Library/Mail folders, at least the mailboxes of the account you want to delete before you delte them. You can bring the mailboxes back later, and copy or erase etc the messages message by message.

If you deleted the mail account, and the mailbox, and received all the mails from your server (not leaving there a copy), sorry .. gone.

I'd really say that this is a bug that Apple should fix. Sure, they'll say it's a feature. But at least Mail.app should offer to archive the mails of an account when removing the account... I've almost lost many, many mails with this but somehow managed to first try & test it with a dummy account... *sigh*

Omg... lost the mails. I don't know why, but I didn't find that folder anymore. But it was there for sure!
georgelien, maybe you are more lucky than me. If you have a second system try the same I did. Only God knows why it's not there anymore. Looks like restarting the os deleted it completely.
The stupid thing: I got most of my licence-keys sent to that account. Anyone some idea what I might have to do when I reinstall the system once? Can I contact the developers and ask for another key? How would they know it's me who paid? God...
