It should fit. Both the iBook and ThinkPad have Kensington security cable slots.

If your cable is a keyed type, then you'll only be able to insert it when the key is in and turned to the unlock position.

EDIT: for your EDIT. So, not a keyed type then? Well, it should still fit. The Targus cables use the same type of connection as the Kensington locks.
 
The security slot on the iBook should be labelled with a little symbol of a padlock.
