Deleting an email message

I know, that sounds like a no-brainer, but I'm having a problem in my email. I'm using the software with the soccerball mac and I've enjoyed it, but I have an email I just can't get rid of. It seems to be a forward from someone I know but when I hit delete, the message is "retrieving message." And it NEVER stops trying to retrieve that message! I've had to "force quit" mail three times now and when it starts up again, there is the message. Am I just stuck with it forever? Ignore it? Hire an exorcist?

Thanks for any help!

I had a problem like that with an email which had a large attached file (an Excel workbook). Ironically I had emailed it to myself from another email account, I just wanted a copy in a different place.

Eventually I logged into that account via the webmail interface (through my web browser) and deleted it there.

I appreciate the reply. I had actually thought of that and went to the provider's website but the message wasn't there. Apparently it did delete there, but it's still in my mac email inbox, showing as unread. It is listed as being 5 MB and I've gotten others of that size or larger with no problem. I let it run for 30-45 minutes last night and it never got anywhere, so I had to force quit to get out of mail.

Ah, I see. I've set mail up so that the mail is saved on the server and not stored locally. So the trick in your case is to find that file on the machine and delete it there from within the file system.

I know there's an answer for that, let me look.
