Deleting Viruses Help

Yes I saw the sticky on this but ... I like simple, and don't really wanna read all those posts.

So I have ClamXav, I had it for a wile now, but the problem is all it seems to do is tell me how many viruses I have. The amount is a lot, but I have no way to delete them either through the program or manually since it doesn't tell me locations. Unless I'm not doing it right. What I'm asking for is either a way to delete the viruses through Clam or a program that will find and destroy all viruses found.

I did research this past week and so far Calm is the only FREE one I can find. So please if it is a different app make sure it's free and works with leopard (not snow), thinking about going to a store to get the upgrade.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Scribbles,

1. Uninstall ClamXav.
2. Disable all macros in Micro$oft products.
3. If you don't need the Micro$oft products, replace them with NeoOffice or OpenOffice or other Micro$oft-free, free alternatives.
4. Don't download or install weird things of unknown origin, such as torrents.
5. Create yourself a non-admin user, and use that for daily tasks. Authenticate as an admin user only when installing something worthwhile.

That should take care of it.

Oh, and please tell what exactly does ClamXav find. I've yet to see an actual Mac OS X virus (trojans there have been a few, most with weird torrents, and the last actual Mac virus I saw was in Mac OS 8.6, before OS X, over 10 years ago) - and I've been working with Macs for some years.

There are no viruses in the wild that can infect MacOS X. I have no idea what ClamAV is detecting. MacOS X 10.6 and MacOS 10.7 have built-in malware protection. Perhaps, ClamAV is identifying the built-in malware signature files as malware.

From the ClamXav setup page - http://www.everythingmacintosh.com/clamxav.html
Any viruses, worms, trojans, and other malware files that are found will be listed in the upper pane of the ClamXav window. To get rid of them, click on one of them to highlight it, then click Select All in the Edit menu...which highlights the entire list. Finally, click the Delete File button at the top of the ClamXav window.
Doesn't this step work for you?

If you want to try a different AV app, Sophos has a free version for OS X.

Just curious - what is "a lot" of viruses/malware? 10 would be a lot on a Mac (even 2 could be considered a lot). More than that are probably just bogus reports, and certainly not files that are actually viruses that affect the Mac and OS X.
The number of files defined as viruses on a Mac is still - (wait for it) - zero...
Other malware forms do exist, but no active "viruses".
