Dell monitor not working with DVI

I bought a new Dell monitor (Dell ST2410 24 inch HD) for my Mac Mini (power pc processor 1.42, G4 1gb ram).
The monitor will work with the VGA connection (using the DVI to VGA converter on the mini), but will not work with the DVI connection. It is a DVI-D connection on both the mini and the monitor. The same cord worked with my old monitor. When it is connected the monitor seems to see a connection, but shows only a black screen, not a blank one.
Any suggestions?

I wouldn't be surprised if the old video card in your mini isn't capable of driving that display, even though it's compatible with Apple's 23" Cinema HD display (and maybe only so because the latter is an Apple product). According to EveryMac.com, the mini "supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports non-coherent digital displays up to 135MHz." This is of no direct help though you might be able to get more relevant technical help if you contact Dell directly.
