Desktop Mozilla icons - what are they doing there?

Not sure if i should be in here, or in the "converts to the Mac" section? Well, try my luck here...

I downloaded both Firefox and Thunderbird - both installed OK, no problem. My only question is why both programs insist on creating icons that remain on the desktop even after I close/quit them?

No other software does that, and it wasn't the case in either Linux or XP. The icons aren't doing any harm, guess I like a clean desktop. Is that a special characteristic of Mozilla's software when on the Mac?

Well, Mac definitly acts differently then Linux and XP. What happens is you download a *.dmg file and then when you double click it, it will mount it to the desktop sort of like a drive. All you need to do is drag and drop it to the trash bin and it should change symbols to an eject icon.

There is a pane during the setup process that asks you if you want desktop and dock shortcuts, its near the end of the setup process. Untick them and it won't do it.

What setup process? All you need to do is drag the icon out of the disk image and drop it into a directory somewhere, then run it from there. After dragging the icon out, you can eject the disk image. If you want a shortcut in the dock, you drag the icon from the directory to the dock.

Just ran through the process and you're quite right, I must have been thinking of the PC setup process. My mistake.
