Desktop Pic Problems

Howdy. My problem is small but it tends to drive me nuts often. I use the random picture setting in my desktops system pref. to cycle through pics ever few minutes. If I just set a picture the desktop pannel provides a name for the file but on random the pannel does not provide the name of the current file. Since I use a large grouping of pictures and sometimes a pic comes up and I want to find its location I wish the pannel provided a name for the current pic.

Is there anyway to find the name or location of a current picture being displayed as a desktop on the random setting?

Thank you kindly for any advice

try right-click or ctrl-click > change desktop background : the desktop and screen saver sys preference should then show you in which folder the pic comes from.

Thank you for the tip I have done that and it doesn indeed show me the folder where they are coming from however the folder deals with thousands of pictures and without the title of the file it is crazy trying to find it. Any idea how to get file name ?

This is one of the things that bugged me about OS X's desktop-randomization, too. My solution is to avoid that feature altogether, and instead use a third-party solution called ChangeDesktop. It's great. It offers more features, better performance, and yes, it lets you easily access the current picture through its handy menu extra.

It's free, and I highly recommend it.

thanks a lot mikuro for the tip
didn't hear about it before and it might come handy the day I use my iPhoto library with some 700+ pics so far,
