Hello. I am running Mac OSX v10.3.9. Last night I installed the new Quicktime and Safari from my Software Update. I was prompted to restart my computer, and after I did, this problem began. My computer loads, but my desktop is left blank. There is absolutely nothing on it. The only thing that shows up is my Dock at the bottom of the screen, and I am able to open up those applications, such as Safari and AIM. I have no idea what is going on and where my desktop and hard-drive are. Any ideas what to do? Thanks!

Were there any other updates that were performed along with QuickTime and iTunes? If you also updated the OS to 10.3.9, it's possible that maybe some peripheral is causing the problem. Try unplugging everything except the keyboard and the mouse and see what happens. Also, try repairing permissions by using Disk Utility which can be found in Applications-->Utilities.
