Developing with PowerPC and OS X 10.5

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to the OS X world, and am having an interesting introduction since my current laptop is an old iBook G4 with a PowerPC processor.

As I'm finding OS X to be a nice development environment I would like to continue using this one for a while before buying a more recent Intel MacBook or such. This is where my problem arises.

I am able to find newer versions of Xcode, and many applications I wish to use (MySQL and others) do not have current support for PPC processors.

With this, I've tried compiling many from source, but still receiving many errors. Is there a place where I can find out more on how to survive with a PPC in the current world? A bunch of hobbyists anywhere? I'm definitely willing to share what I discover on my own (even if I will be happier when I don't have to worry about this issue anymore), just not sure where to look/ask/talk/share.

My system info :
System Software Overview:

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0
Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
Processor Speed: 1.33 GHz

Hope there is some interest in this area, or some of you who can offer pointers where I can get past this roadblock.
