Dial-up Alternative For Vpn For Os X

We have in the past (OS 9) used Remote Access for remote network file transfer. We now have OS X and have a VPN connection. The problem is that our Cable internet service at the server location is somewhat unreliable. We have not dismantled the old OS 9 dial-up system as a back up. We would like to re-use this old equipment for other purposes.

My question is: Is there a way to dial in to the OS X network? We have a vast array of CPU's including a G5 X-serve, eMacs, G4 towers, G3 towers, iMacs, and even some older OS 9 machines (a few).

We could use dial-up from the remote locations to VPN to the server. But if the internet is down at the server, this is my dilemma.
