Difference between Apache 1 & 2?

Can someone enlighten me to the difference between Apache 1.3 and the new 2.0?

If 2.0 is just a better version, why does it seem like 1.3 is running in parallel?

Apache 2.0 was a big upgrade and changes things in a way that might not be backwards compatible with 1.3.

When OS X shipped 2.0 was not yet deemed ready for "production"... so they include 1.3 instead.
