Digital camera and emac

Hello,
I have a problem with connecting my digital camcorder to my emac (imovie). The camera is connected via a usb cable but the computer is not recognizing it. I read that a firewire connection would allow me to view the images on my computer but since I don't have such a cable I would like to know if there is any other possibility?

Thank you

Is it literally a CAMCORDER - i.e. records videos onto tape - or is it just a digital (still) camera?

What model of camcorder or camera is it?

it's a sony digital handycam
model nr, DCR-TRV19E

I got it with the usb cable but the mac won't recognize it

IF the camera has firewire (and I'm sure that one does) then I would strongly recommend getting a firewire cable.

There might be some kind of patch to let you capture through USB 2.0, but firewire offers basically guaranteed compatibility and good functionality. Since you already have the mac and the camcorder, a FW cable will be the best investment you could make.

Once you plug it in, if it does not load, you could run your UTILITIES/Disk Repair in order to see if it's just not mounting. If it's listed on the left, under your computer's hard drive, you can select it and then "mount" it in Disk Repair.

Let us know what works for you. You might very well need a driver from the manufacturers website.
