Direct VNC or other solution?

Hi

I have a Mac and a PC at home, and i want to use only one monitor for both. I know i could buy a kvm switch but it costs $. I currently use OSXvnc and RealVNC to use the Mac, but video is slow. I was wondering, is there anyway to connect the 2 computers directly so that video is faster? I am new at this VNC thing, what is the fastest vnc servers/viewers?

Thanks for your help.

A wired network will speed your connection up, but I don't know of anything significantly faster than a VNC solution. Synergy is a good, free, software KVM if you have two monitors, and want to share the mouse.

I use a data transfer switch, which costs about 1/4 what a decent kvm switch sells for - it works similar to the kvm switch, but each computer requires its own separate
keyboard, mouse, and sound system - the only thing that is shared is the moniter.

Synergy is nice because it's much easier to use - it's as if half of your desktop was a Mac, and the other half a PC. For the price of a KVM, you could get a decent CRT monitor, so it's worth a thought. Here's an example of what you can do:

I had a KVM, but once I discovered Synergy, I switched to that.
