I inherited a g4 aluminum powerbook from a previous employer. When it crashes I get the wrong date and time and I'm unable to correct b/c of password protection, I'd also like to update the software etc. I thought I saw a thread about disabling the pw protection by holding down a key when starting up. Is this true? or Do I need to do a reinstall of the os? Will I be able to reinstall os even with password protection.

You do not need to reinstall the OS. If you don't have a password for the computer, then you can use a MacOS X distribution disc or a System Restore disc to reset the password.
