Disk disconnect? (Possibility of linking two computers)

I am working on a 13" Macbook and, I admit, I have poked around in it, a bit, in replacing a cracked screen. Unfortunately, while it was working perfectly well for at least half of a year, upon inserting a CS4 disk into the computer, my disk drive failed to respond. Nothing appeared. The drive spins the disk, but either cannot read it or cannot communicate with the computer. The CS4 disk was spontaneously regurgitated at a later date, but I do need to get that program onto my computer, and I'd rather not purchase an external drive.

Is there a way to connect two computers so that I might install CS4 on my computer? Else: does it seem too dangerous to attempt to reconnect the drive?

Thank you very much!

I'd say if you replaced the LCD and didn't break the machine, then you should already know whats involved in replacing the optical drive seeing how it has to be removed to untuck the LVDS and isight camera cables and remove the display from the machine. So get a new optical drive?

Yes, thank you. I suppose that it is possible that I may have not reconnected some cables properly, as well. Thank you very much. In the mean time, are there any suggestions for using external drives or other such devices?
Thank you, again!

If you have another Mac you may be able to firewire target disk mode and insert the disk on the target machine and perhaps get the disk to read on the macbook. But it will basically show you maybe the content of the disk but not run any installers. Even if there was a chance it would run the installer through the target machine, Adobe products are so complex it likely wouldn't function properly. You are going to have to get a working optical.

With Leopard or later, you can also use the "CD/DVD Sharing" function of Mac OS X to install software from a CD or DVD over the network to a computer without a CD/DVD drive, or with a malfunctioning CD/DVD drive.

CD/DVD sharing can be enabled on any Mac, but the destination machine is limited to the Macbook Air by default. But there is a little workaround posted.
