By "disk drive" you mean... Zip drive? Hard drive? CD/DVD drive?
By "G4 Tower" you mean... Yikes!? AGP/Sawtooth? Digital Audio? Quicksilver? Mirrored Drive Door?

Ok, we got the CD drive part. Which G4 tower?
Sounds like either you need to clean the lens (using a commercial cd drive cleaner) or the laser is dying and you'll have to replace the drive. I'd try cleaning the lens first.
