Is there any software that can help with building disk images on macosx (and even on pc)? I need to make it appear in a certain way by default ... Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)

Your question doesn't come across very clearly. There's Disk Utility in Mac OS X. Handles disk images quite well. But what are you trying to accomplish? Doesn't sound like you want to merely create a disk image and mount it or something... Please tell in more detail what you want to do, so we can be of better help...

This really might end up being as easy as you mentioned using the disk utility, but I have little experience with it.

I do apologize, I think my question is unclear because I am a little unclear myself as to what I am supposed to ask. Truthfully, I am doing second-hand research for my boss/director; and unfortunately, these are all the instructions that he provided me over the weekend. I may need to inquire more about the details on Monday.

If it helps, here are the literal instructions that I have from the client:

General instructions:
• CDs should be burned on OS X and Windows platforms.
• OS X folder prefs should be set so that files will be visible and clickable in OS 9.
• All files should be locked.
Format on Windows platform: alphabetical
Format on Macintosh platform: Files can be listed alphabetically

Well, if it should be an image that can be processed on Win as well as OS X the format should be something like ISO I guess. It can be burned to CDs, sure as hell can be locked etc. The standard format on OS X, DMG, might not be processable on Win without certain programs.

What programs do you have on Windows to create and read disk images? Maybe that helps to pin down what is suitable on OS X for you

Thanks for the info ... I don't think my dept currently uses programs on Mac or Windows to create and read disk images. It's just not something that we've been asked to do before until now. I suspect that we will have to aquire some software for this...

Let's approach it this way, maybe we can pin down some software for your needs then:

What exactly has to be done with the images? Is it for CD reproduction, data transportation?

Well, ... good question ... I do believe it is for CD reproduction. We will be sending the CD ROM master to the replicators.
