Disk image mount problem

HI all. Has anyone here faced a case when standard .dmg images used to distribute X software (Omniweb, VNC, etc.) are unmountable? The CRC doesn't fail, but the disk is declared unreadable and OSX offers to initialize it or eject it.

I have OSX with dev tools installed.

No but I have a problem where the mount program hangs while trying to mount .dmg
images. Force-quitting and re-mounting solves the problem but it's irritating.

No? I am having the same problem, and need an a solution, as more and more developers are distributing their software on this format.

I can't figure this out...Disk Copy gives an error on any .dmg/.img file....installing software is no longer possible. Looked thru my etc/hostconfig file, didn't see a problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had the same problem when login in NOT as the admin. When I login as admin I can mount the Omniweb disk. Yes, appears to be related to installing the developers package. Maybe the dev package changes the permissions or ownership of a directory - such as /Volumes.

Here is my console log showing the failure to install 3 files [logged in as root]: TinkerTool, XOptimize, Sharity.

I've seen the dosfs and webdav errors in other places too. I've not tried to read an MSDOS disk or WebDav whatever, so I don't know if this error means these things aren't working yet, or if the error is just an artifact from an earlier build rearrangement.

I have the same problem with a running OSX on my Powerbook G3/400 Pismo. After having a big crash and re-installation of OSX I cannot read .dmg images any more.

Is there a solution - maybe third party software - in sight ?

Please help since there are a lot of programs that I would use e.g. Pseudo etc.

Thanks in advance

Sammy

I've the same problem with omniweb.
I've just reinstalled OSX and now i can't install omniweb.
In the previous OSX installation the same .dmg gives me no problem. Mah!

Hm. Those permissions look okay... I was going to ask if the affected machine(s) were upgrade installs over existing Public Beta installs-- but some folks are seeing it after a totally clean (erase the disk) install?

That "unknown user id: unknown" thing is sort of odd. Maybe something corrupted in the netinfo database? If you do "niutil -read . /users/unknown", what does it say? (It should dump a list of info about the basically bogus account called 'unknown')

I resolved the problem with the omniweb .dmg downloading the file directly on my mac.

The file that gives me the error was downloaded on my PC at work, then copied on a CD.

I don't know if something goes wrong in the download on the PC.

That PC thing doesn«t apply to me. i have downloaded from Itools, from Omniwebb, directly in macosx or in 9.1. nothing
works, I still have exactly the same problem. I have tried as root, or as administrator, no difference. i have checked my hostconfig, looks okay : AUTODISKMOUNTER=-REMOVABLE- is there. I have the latest 10.0.3, have have done prebinding
my macosx was a clean install. there are several of us out here that can«t install .dmg files anymore and nobody seem to know why. One last thought; can there be several confighost files? a problem like this is very serious
