Disk Utility not opening??

I have an ibook which runs on OS X10.4.11. When I try to repair my permissions through Disk Utility the icon in the tool bar just pops up and bounces a couple of times and then disappears. So I can't even get to Disk Utility.

I have tried to repair my permissions by starting up with the OS X CD ,in which I hit repair button many times, trying to get to the point when it references no repairs. After several attempts it still says 'Invalid leaf record count(should be 8 instead of 19)'. Help please!

It sounds like you need to repair the disk, first, as indicated by the "Invalid leaf record count" message.

Boot from the CD as you did, but instead of repairing permissions, run a repair disk and see if those error messages can be rectified.

Thanks for the response! When I get to the Disk Utility box from starting with the CD it doesn't give me an option to either repair disk or just permissions. The only buttons I have to hit are verify and repair and this would be after I have selected my main HD(I have it partitioned) in which I have my Apps/Software on? I will try again, though. Thanks again for the feedback though!
