I have lost all my external dirve access, Zip 250, Firewire, CD-RW internal. If I look at disk utility they are there in grey but will not mount! If I boot in OS 9 all works fine. This has become true for all users. I am the main user and admin.

If I need to do a clean install do I need to reinstall applications and plugins?

Please help.

Thanks Muchly,

Dave

Check the Finder Preferences and make sure the everything is checked under "Show these items on destop".

I'm wondering, you say Disk Utility sees an internal disk drive?

I can mount the disks (Firewire, Zip, CD-ROM internal) in OS9 so it's not hardware.

I hear the disk being accessed but it never mounts. Toast has the same problem, it won't mount a disk image.

I installed OS 1.2.5 onto my firewire drive and booted from there and all was fine.

What setting is corrupted that would make that happen.

If I reinstall the OS do I need to reinstall all of my other applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP Print for printing with Epson 800)?

Thanks a ton!

Dave

You can safely do a reinstall and not need to install all of your applications, As long as you do not format the drive which will erase all the files presently there.

Before you do the reinstall, try using Drive 10 from Micromat.
