display full names??

This is something I've been wondering how to do for quite some time...

How can one make OS X display the full names of documents or files when in icon view?

That little elipse thingy is suuuuper-getting-on-my-nerves...

I haven't seen any way around that, and the tooltip that pops up with the full name sometimes doesn't come. Argh.

I seem to be able to get mine to pop up in icon view within 2 seconds when the mouse is held over the text. If I'm impatient I'll use the option key for instant gratification.
