display will not rotate

I have a large monitor attached to my macbook running leopard. For months now I've been tilting my 32 inch dell monitor 90 degrees. then one day the power plug to the monitor got pulled out and now the display wont fill the whole screen. its like the OS realizes that the width has changed but not the height...

If i rotate 270 it works. if i keep a standard rotation it works. if i check the mirror display box and try to rotate 270 i get the same problem as if i just try to rotate 90. then if i uncheck mirror display box and 270 rotation works.
does anyone have any idea how i can get 90 degree rotation to work again?

I already tried all combinations of turning off things.

Thanks!

I had the EXACT same problem.

I rotated to 90 degrees and clicked Confirm (even though it was not displaying correctly). Then I noticed it was now set to 1024 x 768 and my monitor is native at 1600 x 1200. I changed the resolution back to 1600 x 1200 and it filled the screen.

System config:
MacPro 8 core + Samsung SyncMaster 204B
