Does the warranty/applecare cover broken LCDs?

My friend accidentally closed her 12" powerbook with something between the display and the keyboard, and now she has a large black dot...the LCD is obviously broken. She doesn't have Applecare. If she were to buy it, would the LCD be covered against this? I know that several wintel manufacturers cover mishaps like this, but only with "extended warranties", not the manufacturer's warranty. If not, what's a good price for her to sell it for, and get a new one? It's a combo drive model, a month old, with only the LCD messed up. Maybe $500? (I know that the LCD is by FAR the most expensive part, and she's be better off buying a new one than paying for the current one to be repaired)

Applecare would not cover accidental damage. Call Apple tech support, they will be able to quickly tell you how much a replacement of the LCD would cost (and maybe other options) Most people here would only be able to guess anyway, unless they've recently had a similar repair. Be fair to yourself and make a choice with all the facts.

I would call applecare. If you have the warrenty. But if you don't I don't think you can just buy it for that reason.

Apple is really understanding ont he phone and has great people working for them. I'm sure if you genuinely explain the situation they might be able to do something you never know!
