Does your G5 also blow like a vacuumcleaner?

Hi guys,

Whenever I do something in Photoshop, or any other programm for that matter, my G5 blows like a vacuumcleaner or a plane on liftoff. Is that normal? Does yours also do that?
I have the 5 mhz dual processor with 2,5 GB ram and 160 GB workspace.

5 mhz?

Yes, when you do something that demands more from the processor(s) certain fans speed up. Mine does that whenever I fire up folding@home.

I wouldn't think a 5 Mhz computer would need much cooling these days... ;)

Is the noise as loud as when you boot your G5 in single-user mode (restart and hold Cmd-S)? If so, there might be something wrong with your fan control system. If not, then that's just standard heavy operating procedure.

maybe its 5GHz, overclocked and melting itself...

dry ice is needed here...

What settings do you have in the Energy Saver preference pane? There should be a selection for "Processor Cycling" or something like that with options such as "Reduced" and "Highest". If you have it set to "Reduced," then your processors will run slighly below 2GHz until you do something processor-intensive (like PhotoShop), at which point they'll speed back up -- thereby creating more heat, and tripping the fan sensors to run higher. If you have it set to "Highest," then your processors will run at full speed all the time, and cause the fans to spin more frequently.

Perfectly normal.
