Downloaded files won't open

I'm new to Mac so this may be a simple fix that I just don't know about.
When I try to open something I've downloaded such as Zinio Reader my
printer setup utility opens and I can't open the file I want. I noticed in the
preview that the file kind is called "printer setup utility .app document".
Alot of the files I download have this problem. Does anyone know what's
going on?

Is it a brand new Mac running Tiger? What is the file extension of the files you need to open?

It may be that you need to download a bit of freeware called Stuffit Expander, which used to come with new Macs but doesn't anymore.

You can get it from stuffit.com, make sure you get the free one. It maye also be worth doing a search on macupdate.com for other expander utilities as there are probably better ones out there.
