when i watch a downloaded movie
sometimes they suddenly open a link in safari
tha t i dont wanna go to.
is there a setting to change or something so that quicktime is never telling my browser where to go??

i'm 0sx 10.4.3 g4 15"
qt 7.03
safari 2.02

What types of movies are you talking about? WMV? mov? (I know you said QuickTime, but QT can open a lot of movie types.)

I can't say off the top of my head, since I don't have much experience with "pushy" movies, but have you tried VLC and MPlayer? I imagine they would take a more user-friendly approach and ignore these things unless specifically requested.

They are made to send you to their web site no matter which program you play them in, yep, stop downloading porn ;)

Alas, what i download just seems to have a life of its own...
;)
(and ps: Who smelt it dealt it...)
But there's really no fix for this? gotta be some way to block, no?
the files are .mov -- and yes, they're clearly made to bounce me to a site -- i just feel like there's gotta be some way around this

I imagine if you upgrade to Quicktime Pro and export the .mov files to some other format, it might lose that command. But I don't have any porn to test it with.

are yall makin fun of little ol' me...?

ra3ndy clearly got his name for a reason -- he's right! most of these movies CAN'T be exported, for some reason -- but the ones that can, get rid of this link. gracias.

I think the ones that can't be exported would be protected files. Maybe look in the Movie info and see if you can remove the links, most likely won't let you, but try anyhow ;)

I seem to recall these things being contained in their own special type of track, in which case you ought to able to disable it in the "Show Movie Properties" window (QT7, under the Window menu), or the "Enable Tracks..." window (QT6 and below, under the Edit menu). That would have to be done on a movie-by-movie basis, though. And I'm going strictly from memory, as I don't have any example movies on hand.

A more heavy-handed approach would be to disable the ability for any application to launch an URL. You can effectively do this by going to Safari's preferences and changing the "Default web browser" to the Dock ("/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app"). Then all URL requests from apps like QTP will be sent to the Dock, which will neatly ignore them. The problem is, that will also break links in, say, your email client or TextEdit.

Sirstaunch: Are you absolutely sure VLC and MPlayer support this feature? Has anyone actually tested it? They don't use QT to play QT movies, so it'd stand to reason if they didn't.
