Downloading files on the internet

I have MAC 10.5.8 and use Firefox 3.5.7. Whenever I download a file and try to open it, I get this warning:

xxx is a web application which was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?

Whereas "xxx" is the name of the file I downloaded.

I want to get rid of this warning message. I could not find a way to do so in Firefox.

I don't think that message is coming from Firefox but from the Mac OS. I don't know if you can shut this off.

Disabling Leopard’s ridiculous “Are you sure you want to open it?” dialogues

Hmm, I created the file and named it correctly. I also copied and pasted the code. I also put it in the correct directory but when I log out and in again it does not work. Same stupid dialogue appears.
