Downloading software updates

Gidday all,

I would like to download the latest Mac OS 10.2 update but the apple site seems to suggest that this can only be done as a software update (ie. run under OS X) - http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/softwareupdates.html. My issue is that I have a 56k modem at home so the large download is prohibitive. We have a fairly fat pipe at work, however we run PCs. Regardless, or whichever way you look at it, I would just like to download the update at work, burn it to a CD and take it home. But I can't find anwhere to download it. Does anyone have any idea where I can download it, or WHY apple allows this only to be done thru software update?

Thanks for any feedback,

Brooke

If you have a pre-10.2 version, you would have to pay for it to get the Jaguar. It cost about $20 for the update when I bought it right when the 10.2 was released. I'm not sure where to find it on Apple's website now. It's not a free update all I know. The offer may be over b/c it was meant for those who bought 10.0-10.1.5. You may have to pay the full price for it.

If you can wait until late June, there will probably be 10.3 coming out.

To clarify: You have 10.2 and you want to get it updated to 10.2.6, right?

One idea, if you have a decent network connection, is to use Software Update ... no, wait for it! ... and select the update packages you want from the list. Then, select File - Save selected packages to desktop. It will download the updates as standalone installers that you can then burn to a CD for convenience.

If you don't have enough net connectivity to handle around 200mb of downloads (and honestly, most people don't) then you might just jot down a list of the update packages you want, and give the list to your nearest Apple dealer, who will probably be happy to download them and burn them to CD for you, and should only charge the cost of the media.

All of the updates can be downloaded as standalone installers from the web by browsing to:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/

Fuzz:
The update from 10.0.x to 10.1 was a $20 update CD, just as you describe, but the update to 10.2 was a full retail version.

The net sucks (ie. low bandwidth) for most people in OZ. I tried this for the developers tools and the apple people told me they'd charge me some large sum of money since they'd have to dial up on their 56k modem and dl it.

I'm trying the suggested site now... YES YES YES - horay. That's it, thanks symphonix.

3 clicks got me here
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosxupdatecombo.html

sorry to be mildly insulting but did you actually look?

www.apple.com
click macosx
click downloads
click apple (down the right side bar)
scroll to Mac OS X Update Combo 10.2.6

btw the download is 86Mb, i know what you mean about slow 56k, i often download big stuff from university (BIG pipe). The other day i downloaded a 120mb game demo in 15 mins!! yeehaa.

But you should be able to get 20Mb an hour off a 56k connection, so thats 4 hours for the update, i have unlimited 56k access so i often just leave it going over night if i have to.

Attempted insulted accepted.

Yep, I tried.

I tried http://www.apple.com, click on Software, click on Jaguar Mac OS X 10.2, click Get Mac OS X Update 10.2.6 - takes me to the "software update" page.

From software/jaguar .. page above, clicked on Downloads and no dl for 10.2.6 there.

The Apple link isn't very obvious considering that there are Apple products listed in the visible download list.
