"dpms"(?) prob

Hi,I'm actually not an apple user and are trying to help a friend who's having some problems with hers.She's running a G3.osx.10.39 version and upon starting a warning states"DPMS going to off mode" and beleive this is as far it will allow.She has recently had a cd drive changed,but it was working ok for a few days.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Sounds like the monitor's warning. Maybe the display is just not correctly attached? (Check all connections...) Or the Mac wants to display a resolution the monitor can't really do... Then I'd a) try to connect _another_ display to see whether that works or b) reset nvram/PRAM. (Hold down Cmd-Opt-P-R at boot time until the chime comes up again. For good measure, hold it down until it goes through that cycle two times...)
