A friend of mine has a problem with her Epson printer. I wonder if anybody knows what the problem is and how it can be solved.

It's a Mac G4 733 MHz Power PC running OSX 10.3.9.
Printer is Epson Stylus C64.
I've downloaded drivers that are supposed to be compatible with these specifications.
I get a message saying that installation was successful.
I drag the icon to the applications folder, restart then send a test to print and try to add this printer to the list.
It then tells me "drivers not installed".

Many thanks for any help here.

When you say you downloaded drivers, do you mean the Epson EasyPrint v3.10 driver download from Epson's website?

I drag the icon to the applications folder

Can you explain this a bit more especially in context with it follows you saying that you see a message saying that "installation was successful". What was installed exactly?

Thankyou for such a quick response. As I am third party on this I will need to go back and feedback.

From what you say, is the Epson EasyPrint v3.10 driver the correct driver to install?

That may be a possible reason if she is not downloading the correct driver.

Thanks a lot.
I will feeback on where we get to. It may take some time though.

While you were checking with your friend I thought of this:

GutenPrint 5.2b4

Gutenprint is a set of very high quality drivers for printers, with particular emphasis on inkjets. It requires 10.3 (Panther) or higher

Might be worth a look, let me know how it goes ... :)

Some Epson software is confusing to decide which version to download.
Download and install the v1.6cA driver for MacOS 10.3.9
The EasyPrint is a patch to the driver, but not the full install. Install with the v1.6cA, then install the EasyPrint patch.

Restart your Mac after installing both. Make sure your printer is attached, and the printer power is ON.

Thanks for that DM :) didn't know about the v1.6cA driver ... just noticed my link above to the Epsom website has *expired* .... :(

Deltamac
The driver says that its for PowerPC Macs with OS X (v10.1.5 - 10.2.6)
Wheeras the machine has 10.3.9

Are you absolutely sure it is the correct driver, as I do not want to make it worse fo0r thsi person.

The only driver on that Epsom website that's close enough for your friends Mac is the printer driver c1.6cA. Once you've installed that (and I realise your friends using Panther not Jaguar) but once installed you can install the Patch which is for Panther, so all should be fine :)

Well I passed on the info and never heard anymore so I can only assume it got sorted.

Thanks to one and all for your help. Very much appreciated
