I recently purchased a Chimei monitor which has a non-standard screen resolution (it's a 15" wide screen). It worked fine as an external monitor.
But after I connected it to a Windows laptop and used it without problems there, when I connected it again to my Mac, it caused both screens (itself and the notebook) to show weird patterns as if there was some incompatible scanning issue or something.
I wanted to try to choose a different setting from Display Preferences but, since I can't make out anything on the screen, I can't easily do that except by luck. I was lucky once but subsequently and got it working but I've been unable to find where to click since.
The main problem is, the Display Preferences box changes its buttons depending on whether an external monitor is connected or not. So even though I can see where the buttons are when there is no monitor connected and can position my mouse over where I want it to be, the minute I connect the monitor, everything shifts to accommodate buttons for having the extra monitor.
It's been very frustrating trying to find the button or even remember what I had done that one time where things worked out so I've basically stopped using the external monitor, which is a shame.
If anyone has any idea about what I can try, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!
