Dungeon Siege Cross-Platform?

Actually, I know the answer is "no" as far as using Game Ranger or the PC equivalent, but I noticed you can connect via IP number. Does anyone know if that is doable cross-platform?

BTW--what the heck is so hard about cross platform conenctivity? Myth, Diablo, Neverwinter, Unreal and others all did it just fine.
 
It is actually a Microsoft issue, again.

Included in Microsoft's DirectX game development tools is a network component called DirectPlay. It performs all of the network work for multiplayer games. Microsoft will not allow this tool to ported to other platforms. When any game that uses DirectPlay, Dungeon Siege, Age of Empires, and Star Wars BattleGround, is ported, the network code needs to be rewritten and therefore is not cross plaform.

This is why companies like Blizzard and Id deserve our support. They create great games at the added cost of building their own network tools to provide cross-platform games.

Don't get me wrong, give Dungeon Siege a try. I beat it last summer. It is a great game.
