DV import other than iMovie?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a way to import DV from my camcorder in a smaller, low-quality file.

Really, I have to make transcriptions of twelve 90-minute videos and want to use InqScribe to do it. But in order to do that, the video must be a media file rather than analogue from the camera.

iMovie imports at such quality that my HD will be full after a few minutes (I've got about 40G available). Does anyone know of any DV video importing alternatives?

You need to get an external hard drive. It is either that or replace your existing internal hard drive with one of much larger capacity.
 
Is it possible to change the hard drive that iMovie uses? I have just about 8gb free on my system disk, so it's pretty difficult to make longer movies!
 
i have NEVER used iMovie but i assume where ever you save your project file is where your videos will be stored too soo save the project file to your ext :)
