DVD Burning Issue

Hi,

I am trying to burn a backup DVD for pictures/movies/data that I want to remove to free up space on my hard drive. I create a burn folder in the disc utility and put everything in. I checked the capacity of the disc against the size of my files and everything checks out.

Once I click Burn, it scans everything until 83.7 percent, then gives me a message about the file path not being found. It says "Error code -43". I have tried reducing the burn speed as recommended on the Apple site, but this keeps happening.

What is Error 43? How do I locate this file path? How do I burn my DVD? Please help, I very much appreciate it.

This indicates that one of the files or folders you have put into the burn folder is not accessible or readable from your account due to a permissions issue. That is, you are able to put the file into the burn folder, but because you don't have enough access to actually read that file, you won't be able to burn it to the DVD.

If you have put in any folders or files that didn't come from your own home or documents folder, then it is most likely one of these.

I suggest that you first repair permissions on your hard drive using Disk Utility, then try burning the disc without any "suspect" folders. It shouldn't take long to work out what folder or file is causing the error.

This is one area where Finder burning doesn't really do that well. At least third-party apps like Roxio Toast will tell you which file it is having trouble with.
