DVD burning trouble on MBP

Hello,

For the last two months now i have been having terrible trouble with DVD burning on my Santa Rosa 15" 2.2ghz mac book pro. My drive used to work fine but for the last two months now my MBP keeps reporting it cannot calibrate the laser to the type of media i'm using, however i have used nearly a dozen different brands od DVD's, tried different software packages and even tried dual-layer and non-branded disks and nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I'm running leopard 10.5.2.

My best guess is it's time for a replacement Superdrive. I've seen them for less than $100. OR: look for an external drive.
