DVD-copying software is illegal

Definitely. Kind of like suing a tire manufacturer because you got drunk and drove a car with their tires on it.
 
It's not illegal to copy a dvd, it's illegal to break the encryption on a dvd, which is required to copy it.
 
I wonder how this is going to affect other dvd copying programs such as DVDbackup and OSEX.
 
Big suprise here. Just because they cannot stop the real pirates they restrict the rest of us. How dumb is that?

That about sums it up.

Under the fair use of the current copyright law, you're allowed to make a copy for personal use, yet how do you do that if they don't provide the tools to let you make a copy in the first place?!

I can see this turning into something like how the UK government have extended the disabilities act for use on the web: we're not quite sure what we want you to do, so we're going to be very broad and vague, but if you don't do what we want you to do, we'll hit you with a massive fine for discriminatory behaviour...
