DVD-D not really working

DVD-D is a new standard for mission impossible DVDs: they will "self-destruct" after a certain time. Such DVDs are for rental purpose. You get the DVD, after you open the air protected box you will have 8 hours until the DVD will become unreadable and you can throw it away. The ideal thing for the throwaway society.
However, a test on MacBidouille showed, that things seem not to work as they should. Even after 5 days the DVD was readable. :)

Maybe they haven't perfected the self destruct and Mission Impossible was all camera tricks.

Still, if they're going to malfunction, at least they're doing so in a consumer-friendly way. Far worse if they self-destructed 10 minutes into the movie...

I'm sure conditions will vary. I'd hate to bet the farm on this working as you would never know how much time you have.
Probably, humidity temperature have a lot to do with it.

Just what we needed, a "best before" date on DVD's :D "Store cool and dark" LOL!
Who'll be the first to market a fridge friendly DVD rack? ;)

This is an enviromental disaster waiting to happen. Think of all those DVDs that will be dumped in landfills!!

You know, I just saw something like this at my local corner store... ice house... gas station... whatever.

They were selling DVDs like Armageddon, and the DVDs were supposedly "good" for 48 hours before they became unreadable. Didn't have a chance to examine one closely, but next time I go I'll buy one and see what it's all about.

Kind of interesting, though it seems like a big waste of materials if you ask me.
