DVD Drive failure after upgrading to OSX Tiger

I recently upgraded to Tiger (10.4.5) and my LaCie DVD RW Dual Layer drive no longer works. It's as if the drive is dead. You put disk in--nothing happens; no flashing green light or desktop mounting. I installed the drive in 10.3.9, tested it, and then proceeded the upgrade to Tiger. Could it be that my G3 (Blue and white) is too old for Tiger?
Please advise.

If you open the System Profiler (Applications/Utilities) with the drive plugged in, turned on, and connected properly, what shows up in the USB (or firewire, however it's connected) section? Is it recognized at all?

Under Disk Burning reads: "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly." My device is internal and hooked up correctly. I also tried 'Patchburn4', but it didn't find a drive either.

Are you sure that the jumper settings are correct?
.. make sure that the cables are secure, too.
